Scene Around Town: Stewpot Alliance and Dallas Arboretum

As Society Editor for the Katy Trail Weekly I oversee the publication's Scene Around Town feature, which shines a spotlight on nonprofit and community events each week. In this week’s May 13 issue, I was pleased to spotlight photos featuring highlights from the 14th annual Stewpot Alliance Soup’s On! Luncheon and Art Sale held Tuesday, April 12. Co-chaired by First Presbyterian members, sisters Thella Bowen and Carolyn Jefferson and emceed by Emmy award-winning anchor and reporter, Jenny Anchondo of CW33, the program introduced a star roster of local chefs who contributed their time and talents once again with savory soups and recipes to be shared and featured cookbook author and influencer Kevin Curry. On stage, Stewpot Alliance president Marion Armstrong gifted chefs with a unique spoon designed by Dallas artists Brad Oldham and Christy Coltrin of Brad Oldham Sculpture.

Also highlighted were scenes from one of my personal favorite events of the year, the Dallas Arboretum’s Food + Wine Festival. Presented by Dallas Southwest Osteopathic Physicians this food-filled festival showcased more than 30 top local chefs serving their delicious dishes and desserts, along with wines, beers and cocktails. VIP guests attended a special reception at A Tasteful Place and noshed on bites from Chef John Tesar of Knife Dallas, Chef Junior Borges of Meridian, Chef Mark Tungcmittrong of Sushi Rock and Chef Sharon Van Meter of Beckley 1115. Co-chairs were community leaders, Natalie Dossett and Caroline Gehan, and Chef Chair Sharon Van Meter of Beckley 1115.
