Scene Around Town, Katy Trail Weekly (July 30, 2021)

As Society Editor for the Katy Trail Weekly I oversee the publication's Scene Around Town feature, which shines a spotlight on nonprofit and community events each week. In this week’s July 30-August 5 issue, I was pleased to spotlight the AT&T Performing Arts Center who recently announced its 2021 Bravo! Gala and fundraising celebration in support of the Center and its mission to entertain audiences and inspire creativity through diverse performances and arts education programs. Bravo! Gala is scheduled for Friday, November 19, 2021 in the Winspear Opera House. Also featured is the Park Cities Historic and Preservation Society and Jan and Trevor Rees-Jones were recently presented with a Spirit of Preservation Award by Preservation Dallas for the saving of the Elbert Williams Residence at 3805 McFarlin Boulevard in University Park. The Spirit of Preservation Award is given to an individual or organization who brings forth the Spirit of Preservation to inspire and lead others in our community to preserve historic places. Wipe Out Kids Cancer gathered supporters at Museum Tower a few weeks ago to announce their 40th Anniversary Celebration Gala, will take place on Saturday, October 16 at the Belo Mansion. Lastly, The Family Place, the largest family violence service organization in Texas, has rededicated its Safe Campus following reconstruction to repair extensive damage from February’s Winter Storm Uri.
