Scene Around Town, Katy Trail Weekly (August 6, 2021)

As Society Editor for the Katy Trail Weekly I oversee the publication's Scene Around Town feature, which shines a spotlight on nonprofit and community events each week. In this week’s August 6-13 issue, I was pleased to spotlight the closing party celebrating the 26th annual Dallas CASA Parade of Playhouses, presenting imaginative children’s playhouses, to benefit abused and neglected children. For this fun-filled community event, generous architects, builders, organizations, corporations and individuals design, build and donate extraordinary children’s playhouses to raise funds so that Dallas CASA can provide more volunteer advocates to help children who have been abused or neglected have safe, permanent homes where they can thrive. Next up, Lisa Petty, incoming Chair of the Jubilee Society, recently hosted the Jubilee Society of Bryan's House 2021-2022 Season Kickoff Friendraiser at Elizabeth W Boutique. Guests learned more about the Jubilee Society, shopped Elizabeth W Boutique and Deborah Gaspar Jewelry, and enjoyed champagne and Amor y Queso mini cheese boards. Elizabeth W Boutique and Deborah Gaspar donated a portion of sales from the event to Bryan's House to support their mission. They are the only organization that empowers special needs families by removing barriers to care in order to serve these children through education, health, advocacy and social services . Lastly, the Dallas Arboretum and Botanical Garden held a special dinner to honor international acclaimed Zimbabwean stone sculptor, Dominic Benhura, who was in Dallas as part of its Summer of Sculpture exhibit, ZimSculpt.
