Scene Around Town, Katy Trail Weekly (October 8, 2021)

As Society Editor for the Katy Trail Weekly I oversee the publication's Scene Around Town feature, which shines a spotlight on nonprofit and community events each week. In this week’s October 8 issue, I was pleased to spotlight photos from Rainbow Days who recently hosted its 24th annual Pot of Gold Luncheon at the Omni Dallas Hotel. Around 500 supporters and guests gathered to raise a grand total of $232,185 for Rainbow Days. In-person and virtual guests enjoyed a poignant keynote address from author Josh Shipp. A former at-risk foster kid turned youth advocate, Josh is renowned for the documentary TV series on A&E that followed his groundbreaking work with youth and families. Funds raised will help Rainbow Days continue to make meaningful connections with at-risk and homeless children and youth.

As a kick-off to National Hispanic Heritage Month noted anesthesiologist Dr. Catalina Garcia received the prestigious Miguel Hidalgo Award from the Latino Cultural Center in recognition of her contribution to the arts. A champion of women’s rights, Dr. Garcia was a founder of The Texas Women’s Foundation.

Dallas’ newest real estate brokerage, @properties Dallas, threw themselves a Dallas-sized launch party to celebrate the firm’s expansion and franchise debut. The event, hosted by Principals Jerry W. Mooty, Jr. and Piper Young, took place at Star Skyline at the Braniff Centre with a panoramic view of a stunning sunset over the runways at Dallas Love Field airport.

Lastly, Candice & Tony Romo are helping Ronald McDonald House of Dallas (RMHD) kick off the Holiday season as Honorary Chairs of its much-loved Trains at NorthPark, presented by the Bank of Texas. The Dallas Cowboys legend and his wife join 2021 chairs Kate McCoy and Kelley Schadt in bringing joy and wonder to thousands of families who visit the exhibit. Returning November 13, 2021 – January 2, 2022, the Trains at NorthPark is the largest miniature train exhibit in Texas with more than 750 railcars featuring the organizations, families and individuals who make this beloved event possible. Purchasing a railcar before December 7 will guarantee it being on the tracks before the end of the season.
