Scene Around Town, Katy Trail Weekly (October 15, 2021)
As Society Editor for the Katy Trail Weekly I oversee the publication's Scene Around Town feature, which shines a spotlight on nonprofit and community events each week. In this week’s October 8 issue, I was pleased to spotlight photos featuring highlights from the State Fair of Texas. On Opening Day, Fletcher’s Original Corny Dogs hosted influencers and media to celebrate the return of the Fair after a year-long absence due to the pandemic. Guests were among the first to try the brand’s new Dallas Hot Bird Dog, an offering created especially for the 2021 Fair season. For the fourth year, the State Fair of Texas and the Juanita J. Craft Civil Rights House & Museum Steering Committee are proud to announce the recipients of the Juanita Craft Humanitarian Awards. Juanita Craft was a tireless activist for civil rights and played a crucial role in integrating many places across the city of Dallas, including the State Fair of Texas. In honor of her efforts, achievements, and legacy, the State Fair and Juanita J. Craft Civil Rights House & Museum Steering Committee are recognizing individuals who are following in her footsteps and continue to be advocates for positive change in our community.
