Scene Around Town: Preservation Park Cities Historic Home Tour

As Society Editor for the Katy Trail Weekly I oversee the publication's Scene Around Town feature, which shines a spotlight on nonprofit and community events each week. In this week’s September 1 issue, I was pleased to spotlight photos featuring highlights from Preservation Park Cities 2023 Historic Home Tour where chair Christina Dandar brought in dear friends to chair two unique soirées honoring the support of the home tour’s sponsors, patrons and underwriters at certain levels.

The Patron Premiere party was sponsored by Coats Homes and chaired by Meredith Ferrell and Courtney Petit, Courtney Petit Design. The lovely weather set the perfect scene as everyone enjoyed gourmet hors d’oeuvres and libations in the beautiful outdoor gardens and gazebo. Guests were the first to see this year's Historic Home Tour and meet Caitlin Wilson, a home tour homeowner, who was signing copies of her new book, Return to Pretty. The Petit residence is a stunning example of George Marble's Country French architecture with recent updates suited for the modern era.

Chaired by Cory Bowen, the Underwriters Party was at the estate of Toben and Graham Cocklin. This home was designed and built in 1932 in a style which can best be described as English Renaissance or Early Georgian. Sponsored by Lucinda Buford and Legacy Title, this beautiful and historic home in the heart of University Park featured live music, a delicious variety of epicurean delights and a stylish cocktail created especially for this evening’s event.

Each year, the Historic Home Tour celebrates historic preservation and is designed to generate awareness of the role history and preservation play in enhancing the quality of life for everyone who lives and works in the Park Cities communities. Each home showcases a different architectural style with rich history and wonderful examples of how architecturally significant homes can be renovated to fit the needs of today. Burton Rhodes was the 2022-2023 president of Preservation Park Cities. Amy Beale is the 2023-2024 president of Preservation Park Cities. This year’s Historic Home Tour was sponsored by Allie Beth Allman & Associates and D Home. Learn more about Preservation Park Cities by visiting the website at www.preservationparkcities.org
