Scene Around Town: Aware and Jewish Family Service

As Society Editor for the Katy Trail Weekly I oversee the publication's Scene Around Town feature, which shines a spotlight on nonprofit and community events each week. In this week’s July 8 issue, I was pleased to spotlight photos featuring highlights from AWARE Affair’s recent gala themed Soaring to New Heights Fighting Alzheimer’s held in the Star Skyline Hangar at the Braniff Centre. AWARE is dedicated to fighting Alzheimer's disease by providing funding and support to programs, projects, and research provided by nonprofit organizations that actively help individuals affected by Alzheimer's in Dallas and the greater North Texas area. Also featured are scenes from the Jewish Family Service’s long-awaited 10th Anniversary Woman to Woman Luncheon. Just 48 hours before the day of the event, the staff learned that Keynote Speaker Kristin Chenoweth was ill and needed to cancel her appearance. JFS quickly pivoted and Helen Hunt, a multi-award- winning actress, accomplished writer, director and producer, stepped in to take her place. Whew! Jewish Family Service of Greater Dallas is a nonsectarian mental health and social services nonprofit that has served anyone regardless of age, race, religion, or ability to pay for more than 70 years. Their mission is to provide effective, accessible, and comprehensive mental health and social services that promote lifelong self-sufficiency and well-being for the Greater Dallas community. JFS
