Scene Around Town, Katy Trail Weekly (June 18 2021)
As the Katy Trail Weekly’s Society Editor I oversee the publication's Scene Around Town feature, which shines a spotlight on nonprofit and community events each week. In this week’s June 18-24 issue, I was pleased to spotlight Patty and Gary Milam who provided homemade ice cream to the residents of Dallas 24 Hour Club on Saturday (May 29th) as they do every Memorial Day weekend. Since 1969, “The 24” has provided safe, sober transitional living for homeless men and women seeking a brand new life away from drugs and alcohol. It’s great to see the Milam’s show of support and providing encouragement to this community. The Equest 40th Anniversary Gala: Celebrating 40 Years of Horse Power was held at the shiny new Al Hill, Jr. Arena at Texas Horse Park. Funds raised support Equest’s effort to provide equine assisted learning, therapies and counseling to children and adults with physical, cognitive, sensory, coping and learning disabilities, as well as veterans and their dependents who receive all of Equest’s services at no charge. The Dallas Symphony Orchestra League introduced the 2021-2022 debutantes during Announcement Weekend festivities held May 27 - May 30. The weekend marked the official start of a season of events culminating with the 36th Presentation Ball, which will be held February 12, 2022. Lastly, The Forefront Living Foundation announced that it will host its 12th annual Each Moments Matters Luncheon on Tuesday, Sept. 21, 2021 at Brook Hollow Golf Club. Each year the foundation hosts the luncheon to raise funds for the T. Boone Pickens Hospice and Palliative Care Center.
