Scene Around Town, Katy Trail Weekly (May 21, 2021)
As the Katy Trail Weekly’s Society Editor I oversee the publication's Scene Around Town feature, which shines a spotlight on nonprofit and community events each week. In the May 14-20 issue, I was pleased to spotlight the Beacon of Hope at Home Virtual Luncheon held on April 30 benefiting the Grant Halliburton Foundation where Nora McInerny, best-selling author, speaker and podcast host, shared her personal story. Presented by The David B. Miller Family Foundation, the luncheon supports Grant Halliburton Foundation’s work providing education, resources and support for children, teen and young adult mental health. Also spotlighted was AWARE Affair’s annual CELEBRATE THE MOMENTS gala. This year’s theme Alzheimer’s Myths Unveiled and the event was unlike any other, happening both indoors and outdoors at Dallas’ beautiful landmark, the Dallas Arboretum and Botanical Garden. Proceeds from this event will allow AWARE to continue to fight Alzheimer's disease by providing funding and support to programs, projects, and research provided by nonprofit organizations that actively help individuals affected by Alzheimer's in Dallas and the greater North Texas area.
