Scene Around Town, Katy Trail Weekly (March 26, 2021)
As the Katy Trail Weekly’s Society Editor I oversee the publication's Scene Around Town feature, which shines a spotlight on nonprofit and community events each week. In the March 26-April 1 issue, I was pleased to spotlight the Dallas Go Red for Women Movement who pivoted its annual luncheon to Go Red LIVE! United in Purpose, the Association’s first-ever televised give-a-thon, sponsored by Commercial Metals Company. More than 10,000 people viewed the broadcast special on Sunday, February 28 on ABC-affiliate WFAA and on WFAA.com. During the live broadcast more than $100,000 was raised through Open Your Heart donations and the online auction. Also included, was Reliant who announced it was making a $1 million donation to the just keep livin Foundation’s Texas Relief Fund. Founded by Texas-born actor Matthew McConaughey and wife Camila, the organization is working with nonprofits across the state to offer aid to those who are still recovering from the devastating effects of February’s historic winter storm. Lastly, Mimi's Pizzeria celebrated National Pi Day by donating pies to Dallas Children's Advocacy Center.
