Scene Around Town: Callier Center and the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society
As Society Editor for the Katy Trail Weekly I oversee the publication's Scene Around Town feature, which shines a spotlight on nonprofit and community events each week. In this week’s March 28 issue, I’m featuring scenes from the Callier Center who recently gathered members and guests to learn about the “cocktail-party” effect, an audiology phenomenon related to communicating in noisy environments, from the Callier Center’s Executive Director Dr. Angela Shoup. For more than half a century, the Callier Center for Communication Disorders has transformed the lives of children and adults with speech, language and hearing disorders. Proceeds will benefit the Callier Care Fund, which provides financial support for patients who cannot afford treatment. Also featured were scene from the 2025 St. Valentine’s Day Luncheon & Fashion Show. Event co-chairs Courtney Petit and Caitlin Wilson, with honorary chairs Mona and Grey Stogner, were joined by more than 650 attendees at the 2025 St. Valentine’s Day Luncheon & Fashion Show: XOXO Sending Love & Care benefiting The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. More than $640,000 was raised for the LLS mission from this year's endeavor.
