Scene Around Town: Grant Halliburton Foundation and STEAM Academy
As Society Editor for the Katy Trail Weekly I oversee the publication's Scene Around Town feature, which shines a spotlight on nonprofit and community events each week. In this week’s June 14 issue, I was pleased to share highlights from the 15th annual Beacon of Hope Community Luncheon where nearly 700 people attended to raise funds for the Grant Halliburton Foundation. The event raised more than $350,000—a record for the nonprofit organization. Also featured are images from the 5th Annual Women Who STEAM Awards Luncheon where over 300 supporters recently gathered to honor 7 outstanding women in the areas of Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics who exemplified contributions in their fields, as well as within their respective workplaces and communities. Proceeds from the luncheon directly support the STEAM Academy, community programs, and also helps to provide scholarships to college-bound students.
