Scene Around Town: Friends of the Katy Trail and New Friends New Life
As Society Editor for the Katy Trail Weekly I oversee the publication's Scene Around Town feature, which shines a spotlight on nonprofit and community events each week. In this week’s October 27 issue, I was pleased to spotlight photos featuring highlights from a recent mixer hosted by Friends of the Katy Trail Fall at the newly opened Tequila Social. The nonprofit organization supports maintenance, security and new enhancements to the Katy Trail. Also highlighted are images from New Friends New Life who held their annual luncheon on September 29 in celebration of 25 years of empowering trafficked and sexually exploited teen girls, women and their children and driving awareness of this issue and its prevalence. The luncheon featured award-winning actor, director, producer, and activist Kerry Washington as speaker and raised $1.1 million to help the organization continue its mission.
