Scene Around Town: Dallas 24 Hour Club and Rainbow Days

As Society Editor for the Katy Trail Weekly I oversee the publication's Scene Around Town feature, which shines a spotlight on nonprofit and community events each week. In this week’s July 29 issue, I was pleased to spotlight photos featuring highlights from a brand new event hosted by Dallas 24 Hour Club called Tea For Recovery presented by the family of Steven and Jennifer Reynolds. Held inside the historic Alexander Mansion on Ross Ave. the fundraising concept of an Afternoon Tea was imagined by Dr. M. Joan Terry and her daughter, Rev. Tiffany Wright who both share a love for this age-old tradition. Funds raised from this event will assist Dallas 24 Hour Club in their continued mission to provide transitional living, support services and essential life skills for homeless alcoholics and addicts, so they can embrace long-term sobriety and become contributing and self-supporting members of the community, as well as provide operating funds for Friends of The 24, the alumni group of Dallas 24 Hour Club.

Also featured are scenes from Rainbow Days who recently hosted its 25th annual Pot of Gold Luncheon at the Omni Dallas Hotel Dallas Ballroom. 500 supporters and guests gathered to raise a total of $258,775 for Rainbow Days through sponsorships, auction bidding, donations and individual tickets. Held annually since 1997, the Pot of Gold Luncheon is a cheerful and celebratory fundraising event benefiting Rainbow Days’ mission and services. Each year, the luncheon features an inspiring keynote speaker, performances from the Rainbow Days children, moving program testimonials and silent auction bidding. The 2022 event also celebrated Rainbow Days’ 40th anniversary since its founding in Dallas in 1982. Founded in 1982, Rainbow Days has a mission to help children and youth in adversity build coping skills and resilience to create positive futures.
