Scene Around Town: Broadway Dallas, Make-a-Wish, and CC Young
As Society Editor for the Katy Trail Weekly I oversee the publication's Scene Around Town feature, which shines a spotlight on nonprofit and community events each week. In this week’s June 24 issue, I was pleased to spotlight photos featuring highlights from a Spotlight Dinner benefiting Broadway Dallas in anticipation of the show OKLAHOMA! The premise of the series, generously sponsored by PNC Bank, is for patrons to experience exclusive dinners in beautiful Dallas homes or venues, each showcasing a specific Broadway Dallas production. During the reception hour, attendees enjoyed an interactive experience with W Durable Goods who stitched personalized bandanas for each guest and could wander the spacious apartment admiring the owner’s personal art collection curated from their many years of travels. Ken Novice, Broadway Dallas President and CEO gave a toast to welcome guests and introduced performers Rachel Poole, Preston Page, and Joey Rodriguez who serenaded the room with songs from OKLAHOMA! including Oh, What a Beautiful Mornin’ and People Will Say We’re in Love. A four-course dinner paired with HALL wines was served at curated tables placed throughout the home, creating an intimate experience for theater lovers to share conversation. Tickets for Broadway Dallas’ Fall 2022 Spotlight Dinner Series go on sale this summer and will be themed around the shows Ain’t Too Proud, My Fair Lady and SIX. Proceeds will benefit artistic and educational excellence at Broadway Dallas including programs in classrooms and throughout the community that serve more than 40,000 students and families each year.
Also featured were scenes from the Celebrate Age Dinner held on April 7, 2022, at Dallas Country Club to celebrate CC Young’s Centennial and honor the legacy of Reverend Christopher Conley Young. Nancy Ann and Ray Hunt hosted the evening in conjunction with CC Young Senior Living. Guests were ushered into the ballroom, where they were treated to a performance by singer Kate Miner. Following her performance were remarks from CC Young President and CEO Russell Crews and Celebrate Age Dinner Host Ray Hunt about the history of CC Young and what it means to the hearts it continues to touch to this day. Miner then led the audience in a rendition of “Happy Birthday” to top off the celebration. A special centennial birthday cake was presented and served for dessert. Lastly, I was happy to shine a light on Zalat Pizza who, over the course of the last year (May 2021 – May 2022), selected a specialty “pizza of the month” which would range anywhere from their Buffalo Chicken Pizza to a Reuben Pizza. For each specialty pizza that was sold, $1 was donated to Make-A-Wish of North Texas. By the end of the year a total of $16,404 was raised for the foundation which specializes in making children's dreams come true who have been diagnosed with critical illnesses.
