Scene Around Town, Katy Trail Weekly (September 3, 2021)

As Society Editor for the Katy Trail Weekly I oversee the publication's Scene Around Town feature, which shines a spotlight on nonprofit and community events each week. In this week’s Sept. 3-9 issue, I was pleased to spotlight The American Heart Association, the world’s leading nonprofit organization focused on heart and brain health for all, who recently celebrated the 30th anniversary of Côtes du Coeur, the number one fundraising gala in the nation for the Association. This year’s event raised a record-breaking $5.4 million and counting, highlighting Dallas’ passionate support of creating healthier communities across North Texas. The American Heart Association’s top priority is the health and well-being of individuals and their families today and in the future, in every community, from here to everywhere. Heart disease and stroke can affect anyone at any time. Funds raised from Côtes du Coeur go directly toward cardiovascular research and heart health educational programs both locally and nationwide.

The Salesmanship Club Charitable Golf of Dallas announced the 2021 AT&T Byron Nelson raised $5.5 million for Momentous Institute in its inaugural year at TPC Craig Ranch in McKinney. These net proceeds reflect tremendous support even though COVID-19 protocols limited crowd capacity to 25% of pre-pandemic levels. Since 1968, the tournament has raised $172.5 million for Momentous Institute, making it the most financially successful charity event on the PGA TOUR.
