Scene Around Town, Katy Trail Weekly (September 24, 2021)

As Society Editor for the Katy Trail Weekly I oversee the publication's Scene Around Town feature, which shines a spotlight on nonprofit and community events each week. In this week’s Sept. 24 issue, I was pleased to spotlight photos from Bryan’s House recent Patron Party for their Pathways to Inclusion Luncheon Patron Party on Wednesday, September 8th at the home of Dr. Lisa Genecov, this year’s Honorary Co-Chair, and Dr. David Genecov for the upcoming luncheon on Wednesday, September 22, 2021. Guests mix and mingled, enjoyed passed appetizers by The Spice of Life Catering and red and white wine. Abi Erickson, CEO of Bryan’s House, spoke to the crowd with excitement of the upcoming luncheon and introduced new Board President, Nicole Blythe, who shared her story about her niece who lives with disability challenges. Barach Garcia, President of Temple Emanu-El Brotherhood was on hand to tell the history behind their meal program who provides to Bryan’s House children. Lastly Dr. David Genecov told the story of how he and his wife, Dr. Lisa Genecov, became involved with Bryan’s House through his sister who has a tree named after her in the Bryan’s House garden.  To learn more go to: http://www.bryanshouse.org/news-events/

A VIP evening was recently held for donors of Klyde Warren Park to preview the eagerly anticipated Mi Cocina. Over 300 Klyde Warren Park donors and patrons enjoyed the beautiful park grounds and enjoyed the music of Emerald City Band. According to PaperCity’s coverage of the event, the non-profit’s President, Kit Sawers, welcomed the party-ready crowd and reminded everyone that Klyde Warren Park is privately funded and managed, and this group [the donors attending that evening] is critical to the Park remaining clean, safe, and free for the city of Dallas. In fact, the property values around the Park have increased so much that the city receives about $30M annually in the form of incremental tax revenue. That money goes to pay for roads, schools, and hospitals. The Park has been a great return on investment for Dallas.
