Scene Around Town, Katy Trail Weekly (July 2, 2021)
As the Katy Trail Weekly’s Society Editor I oversee the publication's Scene Around Town feature, which shines a spotlight on nonprofit and community events each week. In this week’s June 26-July 1 issue, I was pleased to spotlight the grand opening of Hari Mari’s flagship retail store at 3213 Knox Street. Hari Mari is a proud partner in the fight against pediatric cancer, donating 1% of sales to help pay for medical & treatment costs for children and families in-need. Over 700 supporters gathered together in person and virtually to benefit Vogel Alcove at the 29th Annual Arts Performance Event featuring the Beach Boys at the AT&T Performing Arts Center Annette Strauss Artist Square. Vogel Alcove is a 501c3 nonprofit agency which provides therapeutic early childhood services, school-age programs and family support services for homeless children and their families. Since 1987, the agency has served more than 16,000 Dallas-area homeless children. Lastly, since 2007, the Folds of Honor has provided educational scholarships to spouses and children of America’s fallen and disabled service-members. They recently held a kick-off party to announce the annual Folds of Honor Gala will take place on Saturday, November 13th at AT&T Stadium with honorary chairs PGA Golf Professional Ryan Palmer and his wife Jennifer and Cintia and Johnny Powers.
