Scene Around Town, Katy Trail Weekly (May 7, 2021)
As the Katy Trail Weekly’s Society Editor I oversee the publication's Scene Around Town feature, which shines a spotlight on nonprofit and community events each week. In the May 7-13 issue, I was pleased to spotlight the inaugural Easter in Victory Park - a celebration for residents and visitors of all ages, both two- and four-legged. Located on the lawn outside the Sweet Tooth Hotel, Easter in Victory Park took place on Saturday, April 3. Victory Park transformed into a springtime wonderland with whimsical florals, live music, libations, a hair-braid bar, a lush picnic area, and more, including an Easter Egg Hunt featuring gift card prizes to redeem throughout Victory Park. Featured talent at Easter in Victory Park included Fort Worth native and American Idol alumni Trevor Douglas and Dallas’s very own Sarah Mize of Dallas Love List, who was the resident emcee for the festivities and oversaw the event finale, the first-ever Victory Park Easter egg hunt on the lawn. Also in the spotlight is Terry D. Loftis, the current president and executive director of The Arts Community Alliance (TACA) who is an important figure in Resource Center’s history. Because of his commitment to LGBTQ equity and service to the Dallas community, the Center is excited to announce that Loftis will be honored with its first LGBTQ Community Excellence Award at the Center’s virtual 23rd annual Toast To Life Venetian Carnival on May 1, 2021. Presented by ASP Cares Pharmacy, the virtual event is free and will feature an auction and entertainment by DJ Blake Ward, Caleb Hans, Gulf Coast Kiki Ballroom scene, Heart to Heart Duo, Flying Free Arial Magic and more! All proceeds benefit the services and programs of the Center. Dallas Junior Forum members volunteered at The Family Place “Fore” Golf Tournament April 12, and lastly, in partnership with Texas Trees Foundation, CityLab High School Foundation planted 68 trees at Dallas Heritage Village in celebration of the founding graduates of the school on April 7.
