Scene Around Town: Vogel Alcove, Wilkinson Center and Texas Women's Foundation
As Society Editor for the Katy Trail Weekly I oversee the publication's Scene Around Town feature, which shines a spotlight on nonprofit and community events each week. In this week’s November 19 issue, I was pleased to spotlight photos featuring highlights from the 36th Annual Texas Womens Foundation Luncheon presented by the Dallas Mavericks. Authors and activists Angie Thomas and Cleo Wade inspired attendees to lift their voices and share their unique stories to build communities together. Also featured were photos from Vogel Alcove’s Blue Bird Bash hosted by Joyce Morrison. Funds raised will help Vogel Alcove continue to help young children and their families overcome the lasting and traumatic effects of homelessness. Lastly, the Friends of Wilkinson Center, event chairs Karrie Cato, Ida Gleaton and Lindsay Morris, and honorary chairs Holly Greef and Carlin and Charles Morris were joined by more than 300 attendees at the eighth annual The Spirit of Taos presented by Reliant on Friday, October 15, 2021, at the Arts District Mansion. Funds raised from this event will help support the Wilkinson Center’s mission to transform the lives of Dallas families by providing pathways to self-sufficiency with dignity and respect.
