In 1935, Vogue told its readers that "pancakes are frankly difficult and not worth eating at all unless they are of paper thinness and succulent tenderness." Obviously, millions of people around the world disagreed with this statement because today, pancakes are still one of our most popular breakfast foods. National Pancake Day is celebrated on Shrove Tuesday (which you might know better as Fat Tuesday), which will be Tues, February 25 this year. It's the last day before Lent, the traditional 40 days of abstinence before Easter practiced by Christians. The custom is to empty the pantry of all sugar, fats, and eggs to avoid temptation and reduce waste. These ingredients were put to good use by making and consuming large batches of pancakes made from scratch. If you like to pay tribute to the humble but delicious pancake, here are a few options in the Dallas-Fort Worth area for you:

Can you see why The 24 calls this a hubcap pancake?

Since 1969, The 24 has provided safe, sober transitional living for homeless men and women seeking a brand new life away from drugs and alcohol. Located inside Dallas 24 Hour Club, The Hubcap Cafe not only serves delicious food such as burgers, sandwiches, salads, and breakfast staples all day to the public, but it provides a space for friendship, support, and camaraderie to its residents. Regulars love the colossal Hubcap Pancakes, which are appropriately named because they are literally as big as a car's hubcap (as evidenced in the photo above). Served with butter, syrup, and an optional side dollop of peanut butter. Regulars are obsessed with them, not only are they delicious, but because they also come with an amazing price point of $2.00! At the Hubcap Cafe breakfast is served all day, you can enjoy them from open to close.

In celebration of National Pancake Day, The 24 is hosting a Pancake Party on Tuesday, February 25 from 7 AM to 7 PM. A $5 donation will get you one colossal Hubcap Pancake and a cup of coffee to enjoy and provide one for a resident of The 24. Should you wish to order something else off of the menu, you are welcome to do so. A suggested donation of $5 (in addition to your meal) is appreciated to help feed residents. If you can't make it down in person, you can still support their mission by donating $5 or more. Funds raised will go to provide meals for residents. On average, Dallas 24 Hour Club helps over 600 people annually get off the streets, find employment, and learn to live a sober life. The Hubcap Cafe is located inside the 24 Hour Club at 4636 Ross Ave, Dallas, TX 75204, 214-823-3200, www.dallas24hourclub.org. Operating hours for the Hubcap Cafe are 6:00am to 10:00pm.

Snooze staff and their families will also donate their time on April 23 when they return to the gardens to assist in planting and harvesting for their annual Garden Party, and guests are welcomed to join as well.
